A day in West Egg

Every Summer, Governor's Island Hosts the Dreamland Orchestra's Great Gatsby Lawn Party. This year, it was held on two different weekends, one in July, and one in August. I went to the one in August and it was such a blast!!!

In honor of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel, attendees showed up to the event in large fashionable crowds. Everywhere you looked, there were men properly dressed in 1920's attire, with the looser fitting suites, or the vintage polo outfits. Women showed up in get-ups that ranged from the more daring and glitzy flapper outfits to more daytime appropriate dresses that embodied the fashions of the era by having drop waist details and a more relaxed and eased fit. The spirit of the roaring 20s were seen all around with opulent and extravagant headgear and accessories.

The band did a tremendous job and many people showed up having learned 1920s popular dances such as the Charleston. Overall, it was a wonderful experience that transported you back to the enchanting and carefree days of the jazz age.

Hi. Its been a while. Lets be friends.

Its great to be back in the city. Theres something strangely nostalgic about the contrasting feelings and senses that you can only get here. There will be always be things about New York that I hate, the putrid scents, the raucous construction and traffic, the the bustle of busy people who are too preoccupied with their own lives to care, the copious amounts of rodents and cockroaches, and the claustrophobia inducing hoards of people. But at the same time, how could you not miss the savory scents from the food carts, the colorful and interesting storefronts, the one-dollar pizza (!), the outrageous fashions, the melange of diverse people and personalities, and the fact that, at any given time, there is always something to do or see and a place for you to be.

Since I've last posted, I've moved into an apartment with one of my close friends and school has started up again. Art projects and sewing projects have halted in favor of interior decorating projects and homework. So much has happened in the last three months and yet there is still so much more to come.

A couple of weeks ago I found some cameras left over from when I started taking

photos as a hobby three years ago. I have yet to develop shots from my holga, but

here are some shots from a three dollar goodwill cam and the last two shots are from

this fun plastic toy camera called the split-cam. These photos and the memories that

resurfaced with them made me wistful of my younger days and my ventures into

Boston with my friends or in solitude. No matter how much I used to criticize the city

for its lack of activities for the under 21 or even under 18 crowd, I had always explored

different neighborhoods and found myself magnetized to the local charm offered by

each place.
